TO THOSE PASSING BY …

Thank you for stopping to take a bulletin from our fence container.  May this day be a happy one for you.

Speaking of “days,” again and again and again, in the beautiful Book of Isaiah, the Prophet repeats the phrase, “Oh that day….”

“On that day the deaf shall hear … on that day the eyes of the blind shall see….”  Take a stroll through the prophesies of Isaiah and note that “on that day,” whenever it is, something momentous is afoot.

Perhaps on a certain day you, and we, will be open to God in such a way that we will hear his voice in the midst of the busy world around us, see him more clearly, give heartfelt thanks for all his gifts to us, recognize his image in others … and in ourselves.

Maybe, for us, “that day” is today!

May you feel the love of God in your life all the days of this week. And, please, stop into the church when ever it’s open, always around Mass times.   We welcome you.

Blessings to you now as you continue on your way.

Scripture Readings: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Zec9:9-10; Rom8: 9,11-13; Mt11: 25-30 (100)

The prophet Zecharuah rejoiced as he envisioned the messianic king to come. The Messiah of God would not be a mighty warrior but humble, mek, and compassionate toward all. He would proclaim peace to the ends of the earth, not by a limited treaty but by one that would last for all time.

Jesus joyfully revealed God’s reign to the lowly ones who had great need of God’s mercy. That which was revealed to the simple of heart remained a mystery to those who thought they were wise and learned. God shared dominion and kingship with Jesus, and he in turn shared everything with God’s children.

Paul said that as God raised Jesus from death, God lifts us up and gives new life. All who labor under the heavy yoke of oppression are invited to come to Jesus for freedom. We give thanks and tell everyone the good news!

For Reflection: How has Christ eased my burdens? Have I lifted the load from someone else’s shoulders?

Next Week: 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Is55: 10-11; Rom8: 18-23; Mt13: 1-23 or 13: 1-9

.PARISH  WEEKLY ENVELOPES

You can pick up this year’s box of offering envelopes in the rectory during office hours if you have not already done so.

You can also register in the parish and get envelopes if you wish.

SUMMER OFFERINGS

As you know, many of our parishioners go away during the summer months resulting in a decline in our weekly collection income.  Since our bills remain the same and the cost of building repairs keeps mounting we ask our parishioners to try  to make up for the loss by maintaining your weekly offerings or by giving a little extra in the WHILE I’M ON VACATION envelope found in the church vestibule. We are truly grateful for whatever help you can give us.

TO THOSE PASSING BY

Thank you for taking a bulletin today.  Please feel very free to come in and pray with us, or simply sit in God’s presence, whenever the church is open … and that’s always around Mass times.

Of course, we can pray anywhere.  Many people pray as they walk along the street, or at home, as well as in church.  There are people who pray on the subway, particularly for the people in the car with them, strangers though they are.  So many passengers have left problems behind them at home: a sick child, a lonely parent, a stack of bills. Other riders may be heading to a job that’s filled with stress and anxiety and maybe the possibility of termination.  With prayer in the equation, for a few minutes under the East River or on the Manhattan Bridge, everyone in that car is held up to God.  Who knows what burden in someone’s heart might be lifted by your prayer!

On the subway, in the park, in the supermarket, in church, on a bike or skates, taking the dog for a run, wherever you are, may you feel the loving presence of God in your life all the days of this week.

And blessings to you as you continue on your way
